Interpreting
English-Japanese
I listen carefully to the background, context, and intentions behind the speaker’s words, taking cultural differences into account to bridge communication between languages.
Experience
Interpreter since 2006:
-
Mindfulness & Meditation
When interpreting for mindfulness and meditation, I pay close attention not only to the words being spoken, but also to the speaker’s experience, pace, and rhythm, taking care not to interrupt or interfere with the process. I have extensive familiarity with the specialist knowledge and terminology used in mindfulness-based approaches, including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness (TSM), and Cognitively-Based Compassion Training (CBCT).
Selected interpreting clients and organisations:
Janet Lau (Hong Kong), International Mindfulness Center JAPAN, Keio University Center for Contemplative Science and Practice, psychologists, MBSR and MBCT teachers, and many others.
-
Bodywork
When interpreting in settings involving movement, such as yoga and Pilates, I am experienced in adding language naturally without disrupting the flow or rhythm of the practice. I listen carefully to the teacher’s tone of voice, energy, and the quality of their embodied experience, and aim to convey these nuances through my interpretation.
Selected interpreting clients and organisations:
Yin Yoga teachers including Paul Grilley, Sarah Powers, Joe Barnett, and Jo Phee; Yoga Therapeutics teacher Jonas Westring; Tantra philosophy teacher Carlos Pomeda; Pilates instructors from Power Pilates, Body Control Pilates, Studio Yoggy Japan, Spirit Yoga Studio Japan, and others.
