Dialogue
Cross-cultural exploration.
A space for therapists, mindfulness facilitators, and other practitioners who would like to deepen their understanding of Japanese culture and the experiences of Japanese clients through dialogue .

What we do
A space for therapists, mindfulness facilitators, trainers, and other practitioners who work with Japanese clients and would like to explore how mindfulness-based, trauma-informed, and other approaches can be offered with greater cultural awareness. Through dialogue, we explore how cultural values and ways of relating may shape the way these practices are understood and experienced in Japan.
For example, in Japan, strong expectations around altruism and “not causing trouble for others” can lead people to put others’ needs before their own, sometimes at the cost of their own well-being. We explore how mindfulness and compassion can be offered with awareness of these cultural contexts.
Rather than simply applying methods developed overseas directly to Japan, we consider together what it means to offer these practices in a way that honours both cultural context and the individual’s lived experience.
