Personal Sessions

An Embodied Approach

By bringing mindful awareness to bodily sensations and allowing them to guide the process, we create space for a mindful dialogue and time to reconnect with ourselves. Sessions are available in either Japanese or English.

What we do

When we encounter difficulties or want to deepen our understanding of ourselves, we may find ourselves wanting to reconnect with our authentic self.

Perhaps the reason you have lived in ways that did not feel true to yourself was because those ways helped you survive. You may have come to believe that unless you were a certain way, you would not be loved or valued.

As we live our finite lives, there may come a time when we begin to feel that we no longer want to continue carrying the roles or habits that have helped us get through life. And yet, these ways of coping may once have been necessary — perhaps helping us maintain a sense of attachment with people who were important to us, or helping us feel safe and alive. For this reason, I do not believe we need to simply make them disappear.

For those who have lost touch with their authentic self.

Returning to ourselves takes courage. It means inevitably revisiting our personal history and the memories held within our bodies. This kind of exploration is not possible without compassion towards ourselves, and yet we may find ourselves wondering, “How am I supposed to be kind to myself?” and feel at a loss.

With the awareness cultivated through mindfulness, we can begin to connect with our bodily sensations and notice that they have many different qualities. These might include warmth, coolness, tension, the rhythm of our heartbeat, the length of our breath, or a sense of calm. We might even describe them with words such as tingling, pounding, restless, fluttery, or soft and light.

By connecting with our bodily sensations, becoming curious about their qualities, and approaching them with a sense of playfulness, we can explore what helps our body feel more at ease or soothed. This might involve touching or moving the body, breathing in particular ways, or imagining something that brings a sense of comfort. Or, we can also learn to be okay with ourselves when we do not feel soothed or at ease. This can be a first step towards learning how to care for ourselves.

When the body begins to feel more at ease, our inner perspective often opens up. Within this more spacious state of mind, we can become curious about our emotions, memories, and thoughts, and use them as clues to gently explore who we are within our relationships with the people, places, and things around us.

When we are being the person we think we “should” be, we may feel tension in the body. When we are being more true to ourselves, we may experience a greater sense of ease.

"Which self am I being right now?"

"Whichever one it is, can I meet it without judgement?"

Over time, as we become more able to recognise which way of being we are in, we may begin to have more choice in how we want to be from here.

Changing roles and habits that we have carried for many years takes time. Yet it is precisely because of these challenges that we have chosen to take a new path — a path back to ourselves. There may come a point in life when we feel that we can no longer avoid taking that path. From there, we can begin to create a new story for our lives — this time, one that we create for ourselves.

Along the way, we may experience setbacks and feel disappointed when we find ourselves returning to old patterns. Yet research in neuroscience suggests that when we repeatedly choose to take new paths, our neural connections can gradually change as well.

I am here to support you in cultivating the self-kindness and resilience needed to live authentically while remaining interdependent with the people and world around us.

About the Sessions:

Sessions are primarily dialogue-based, while also incorporating time to move the body and bring awareness to bodily sensations. At times, we may also practise a short meditation.

In our sessions, I draw on the following practices and theoretical approaches:

  • Simple mindfulness practices

  • Simple yoga practices

  • Compassionate Inquiry (CI)

  • Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)

  • Trauma-informed approaches

Important Note:

I am not a licensed counsellor or therapist. My sessions are grounded in my own long-term learning and practice in mindfulness, yoga, compassion, embodiment, and related fields. These sessions are not a substitute for counselling, psychotherapy, or medical treatment. They may, however, complement other forms of professional support.
